MapleStory 2 is just nothing like the original game

MS 2 takes the characters and world people loved in the original game, throws them into a time machine then shoves more prevalent, modern MMORPG gameplay into the game. For starters, the new game isn't a pixel side-scroller such as the first MapleStory was Maplestory Mesos. Instead it takes on a blocky appearance, very similar to Minecraft, but with its own cutesy spin. However, the aesthetics are the important differences between the 2 games.

In MapleStory 2, there is no need to remain on a single map and grind creatures for long periods of time like in the first game. Your character levels naturally and easily just from performing the story quest, like in Final Fantasy XIV or any other contemporary MMO.

The sequel also encourages some more source direction than its predecessor. As opposed to spamming your strongest ability and relying on a pet to automatically refill your health and mana, you truly have to see your "spirit" levels and strategically utilize your abilities to refill them. This makes the game harder than the first MapleStory, but the ability rotations you have to do to keep your spirit up are not complicated, like any other MMOs. The original game's combat tends to get a modest mind-numbing when taking down enemies, but dodging area-of-effect abilities on a 3D map and keeping up spirit forces you to pay more attention in MapleStory 2.

These changes make MapleStory 2 feel as a better sequel instead of just the 3D rendition of an old game that it might have been. If you're searching to slay some actors and run some raids, then MS2 Mesos is probably the match for you. But if you would like to just grind all day and night, you should stick to the original MapleStory.

Though I have only played for about two hours (was bored af waiting for a character to be deleted in my main universe), I feel as though other worlds could gain from the match if cubes were purchasable with MapleStory 2 mesos. However, not just any cubes.
